Originally, the tournament should take place as ICC T20 World Cup 2020 from 17 October to 15 November 2020 in Australia. In mid-July 2020, a shift was decided by a year due to the Covid 19 pandemic. The tournament was awarded to India, which was originally designed by the tournament 2021, and Australia for the issue 2022 provided. Due to the persistent pandemic, the tournament was awarded to the United Arab Emirates and Oman, while India remains nominal hosts.There the tournament has previously been referred to as ICC World Twenty20, this is the first issue under the new name. Defending champions are the West Indies.
